What Makes Concrete Crack More Around the Coast?

Why the Coast Multiplies Cracking

Near the coast, concrete doesn’t just get “salty” on the surface. Airborne or splash chlorides ride moisture into the pore network. Rinse salt off after storms or ocean-side winds, and stop irrigation from hitting concrete edges. Fill cracks selectively: use a flexible sealant for moving joints, not rigid patch for active cracks. Call a pro if you see rust staining, hollow-sounding areas, or new chipping that exposes metal.
