Is It Efflorescence or Concrete Patio White Powder?

The Safest Fix for a Dusty, Chalky Concrete Patio
You scrub it clean on Saturday, and by Monday the white powder is back or the surface looks hazy and feels even softer underfoot. The fastest way to turn a minor patio problem into a permanent one is to escalate too aggressively before you know what you’re dealing with.
The safest approach is to start with the gentlest method that answers your problem, then step up only if the residue keeps returning. The big mistake is jumping straight to acid washes or a “quick sealer” and locking in a haze or peeling film, especially in Wilmington-area humidity where slabs struggle to dry out.
Begin with dry removal (stiff broom or shop vac) so you’re not turning powder into a slurry that dries back into a film. If you need water, rinse lightly and let it dry fully.
