What causes the black streaks?+

Gloeocapsa Magma algae. It thrives in humid coastal climates, feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles, and shows up as dark streaks running down the roof. Very common in coastal NC.

Why not just pressure wash it off?+

Pressure washing removes the visible streak but strips shingle granules in the process. Most shingle manufacturer warranties prohibit pressure washing for that reason. Soft wash kills the algae chemically without damaging the shingles.

How long until the streaks come back?+

Usually 3 to 5 years if we treat it properly. Coastal {town} humidity will eventually let new spores take hold, but bio-based soft wash kills algae deeper than pressure washing ever could.

Is the treatment safe?+

Bio-based, low VOC, no harsh runoff. Safe for kids, pets, plants. We pre-wet sensitive landscaping and rinse if needed.

Will this hurt my shingle warranty?+
